TERMS AND CONDITIONS
This Enrollment Form constitutes a legally binding document ("Agreement") between Cambridge Energy Research Associates, Inc.; IHS Global Insight, Inc.; IHS Herold, Inc.; Jane's Information Group, Inc.; and Lloyd's Register - Fairplay Ltd. on the one hand (collectively, "IHS"), and the delegate ("Delegate") and Delegate's employer ("Client") as listed on the front page of this Enrollment Form.
By signing this Agreement or by attending the Event and/or receiving the event materials ("Event Materials") and/or hearing speaker comments, the Delegate and Client agree to be bound to the following terms and conditions. These terms and conditions may not be varied except by prior written agreement between the parties. These Terms and Conditions are in addition to any written agreement between IHS and Client governing subscription or license to IHS products or services.
Substitutions and Cancellations Policy: Notwithstanding anything to the contrary on an IHS event Application or Enrollment Form, IHS does not provide refunds for event seats purchased. Delegates or Clients who purchase event seats may send a substitute colleague from within the same organization to attend the event. Delegate or Client agrees to provide IHS with written notification of the name(s) of the substitute(s). IHS reserves the right to refuse attendance to the event to substitutions that have not been authorized by IHS. Substitutions will be accepted up to the start of the event. IHS reserves the right to terminate this Agreement or to vary, postpone, or otherwise cancel an event where the occasion necessitates, at any time, for any reason. If IHS cancels the event, Delegate or Client will be entitled to receive a refund. IHS accepts no other liability if, for whatever reason, the event does not take place. This Agreement or the event may be terminated upon 30-days prior written notice by either party for material breach of this Agreement by the other party, unless such breach is cured in such 30-day period.
Payments: Delegate and Client will be jointly and severally liable for payment of all the fees due to IHS within 30 days from the date of an invoice and shall additionally be responsible and liable for interest on past due sums at the lesser of the maximum legally chargeable interest rate or 18% per annum. Delegate and Client will be jointly and severally liable for payment or reimbursement to IHS for all applicable taxes, customs charges, insurance, freight and/or delivery charges. Nothing contained in any purchase order, purchase order acknowledgement, purchase order terms and conditions or invoice will in any way modify or add any additional terms or conditions to this Agreement.
Right to Use: IHS prohibits unsanctioned hosted hospitality suites or receptions, group invitations to conference delegates for private events, and the distribution and display of marketing materials and logos. Delegate and Client agree that the Event Materials are the confidential, copyrighted proprietary and/or trade secret property of IHS. IHS maintains final editorial authority over all associated Event Materials. Subject to payment of the applicable fees, IHS hereby grants and Delegate accepts a nonexclusive, nontransferable right and license to use the Event Materials only for Client's internal business purposes, and not for sale, sublicense, or other disclosure to or for a third party. Delegate and Client assume all liability associated with any misuse of the Event Materials.
Disclaimer and Applicable Law: IHS reserves the right to acknowledge all delegates and clients in the event, including other industry players and representatives of government. Some information supplied to IHS as may be included in the Event Materials may be obtained from third party sources but are in no way warranted by IHS as to accuracy or completeness. Delegate and Client recognize that any opinions in the Event Materials reflect IHS's judgment at the time and are subject to change. ALL EVENT MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, WRITTEN OR ORAL ARE HEREBY EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMED AND NEGATED. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL IHS OR ITS PRESENTERS OR SPEAKERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, LOST PROFIT, LOST ROYALTIES, LOST DATA, PUNITIVE, AND/OR CONSEQUENTIAL LOSS. Delegate and Client agree to comply with all applicable conventions, laws, rules, regulations of incident to any or all of its activities contemplated by this Agreement including, without limitation, the US Export Administration Regulations, the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and the US antiboycott regulations. Event participation is at the sole discretion of IHS. IHS reserves the right to refuse to authorize an Agreement. This Agreement shall be governed by and construed according to the laws of the State of New York without regard to its choice of law provisions.
Waiver of Liability: Delegate and Client hereby fully and forever release, discharge, hold harmless and agree to indemnify IHS and its employees, directors, officers, affiliates, representatives, agents, and their respective successors and assigns, from and against any and all liabilities, losses, claims, demands, litigation, damages and judgments, present or future, known or unknown, foreseen or unforeseen, valid or invalid, direct or consequential, together with reasonable costs and attorneys' fees, which result directly or indirectly from any injuries, illness, disability, death or other harm to Delegate or Client (including Client's directors, officers, affiliates, representatives, agents) or their respective successors and assigns or their respective property, that any of such parties may, in any manner and from whatever, sustain in connection with the Event.
Privacy Protection Policy: IHS may periodically contact Delegate and Client with details of programs and services that may be of interest and may pass Delegate and Client details to its affiliates and subsidiaries within the IHS Inc. group of companies. Delegate and/or Client will write to IHS Client Services if they do not wish to be included in this activity.

Daniel Yergin is a highly respected authority on international politics and economics and on energy. Dr. Yergin is a Pulitzer Prize winner and recipient of the United States Energy Award for "lifelong achievements in energy and the promotion of international understanding." He is both a world-recognized author and a business leader, as Chairman of Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA), one of the world's leading consulting and research firms in its field.
Dr. Yergin received the Pulitzer Prize for his work The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power, which became a number one best seller and was made into an eight-hour PBS/BBC series seen by 20 million people in the United States. The book has been translated into 12 languages.
Dr. Yergin plays a leadership role in the global energy industry. He chaired the US Department of Energy's Task Force on Strategic Energy Research and Development. He is a member of the Board of the United States Energy Association, and a member of the National Petroleum Council, and this year became the only foreign member of the Russian Academy of Oil and Gas.
He also serves as CNBC's Global Energy Expert.
Of his most recent book, Commanding Heights: The Battle for the World Economy, the Wall Street Journal said, "No one could ask for a better account of the world's political and economic destiny since World War II." It has been translated into 13 languages. (Dr. Yergin led the team that turned it into a six-hour PBS/BBC documentary—the major PBS television series on globalization. The series received three Emmy nominations, a CINE Golden Eagle award, and the New York Festival's Gold WorldMedal for best documentary.)
Dr. Yergin has been named one of the 500 most influential people in the United States in the field of foreign policy by the World Affairs Councils of America. He is a Trustee of the Brookings Institution, a Director of the US-Russia Business Council, and on the Advisory Board of the International Institute for Economics.
Dr. Yergin received his BA from Yale University and his PhD from Cambridge University, where he was a Marshall Scholar.
In November 2005 he was awarded the Medal of the President of the Republic of Italy for combining "an understanding of the dynamics of the market with a broad view of the forces of geopolitics as he seeks to point the way to the positive outcomes for the world community."
David Hobbs, IHS CERA Head of Research, is an expert in energy industry structure and strategies. He previously led IHS CERA's research activities in oil markets and strategies, liquefied natural gas, technology, and environmental strategies. Mr. Hobbs is an author of the major IHS CERA studies In Search of Reasonable Certainty: Oil and Gas Reserves Disclosures, a comprehensive analysis of the problem of assessing reserves, and Modernizing Oil and Gas Disclosures. He is also a principal author of a major IHS CERA assessment of the world economic crisis, "Recession Shock": The Impact of the Economic and Financial Crisis on the Oil Market, and of the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Harnessing the Storm-Investment Challenges and the Future of the Oil Value Chain, the author of the IHS CERA Private Report Daring to Be Disciplined: Continuous Portfolio Improvement, and a project advisor to the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Crossing the Divide: The Future of Clean Energy. Prior to joining IHS CERA Mr. Hobbs had two decades of experience in the international exploration and production business. He has directed projects in Asia, South America, North America, and the North Sea. He has led major international investment and asset commercialization operations. Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Mr. Hobbs holds a degree from Imperial College.
James Burkhard, Managing Director of IHS CERA's Global Oil Group, leads the team of IHS CERA experts that analyze and assess upstream and downstream business conditions and strategies. His team also develops and maintains detailed short- and long-term outlooks for global crude oil and refined products markets. Mr. Burkhard's expertise covers geopolitics, world economic conditions, and global oil demand and supply trends. He works closely with IHS CERA clients in assessing how market, economic, and political risks could change the competitive environment. He also works with companies to assess business opportunities in both the upstream and downstream sectors.
Mr. Burkhard was the project director of Dawn of a New Age: Global Energy Scenarios for Strategic Decision Making-The Energy Future to 2030, the most comprehensive study that IHS CERA has ever undertaken, encompassing the oil, gas, and electricity sectors. He was also the director of the IHS CERA Multiclient Study Potential versus Reality: West African Oil & Gas to 2020. He is also the coauthor of IHS CERA's respected World Oil Watch, which analyzes short- to medium-term developments in the oil market. In addition to leading IHS CERA's oil research, Mr. Burkhard served on the US National Petroleum Council (NPC) committee that provided recommendations on US oil and gas policy to the US Secretary of Energy. He led the team that developed demand-oriented recommendations that were published in the 2007 NPC report Facing the Hard Truths About Energy. Before joining IHS CERA
Mr. Burkhard was a member of the United States Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa. He directed infrastructure projects to improve water availability and credit facilities. He was a field operator for Rod Electric. Mr. Burkhard holds a BA from Hamline University and an MS from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
James Rosenfield is cofounder of IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates (IHS CERA). He now serves as Senior Advisor to IHS CERA and Cochairman of CERAWeek. Mr. Rosenfield led in the creation and growth of IHS CERA, overseeing operations and strategy, as well as product and business development. Mr. Rosenfield created CERAWeek and has overseen its evolution over 27 years into a premier international energy gathering of senior executives and government officials. Mr. Rosenfield has edited, coedited, and coauthored numerous IHS CERA reports. He is Series Production Executive for “Commanding Heights: The Battle for the World Economy,” a five-hour award-winning television documentary broadcast nationally over the Public Broadcast System. Mr. Rosenfield serves as non-executive Chairman of Acumentrics, Inc, a solid oxide fuel cell and advanced power electronics innovation company, as well as a Director of Azima, Inc, a web-enabled equipment condition monitoring and diagnostics business. He was a Senior Fellow at the Harvard University Center for Business and Government (2005–07). He is a Member of the Corporation of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He received his undergraduate education at Harvard College and holds an MBA from Boston University.
Bhushan Bahree, IHS CERA Senior Director, is a widely respected authority on global oil markets with particular reference to OPEC and the Middle East. For nearly 30 years Mr. Bahree has analyzed decision-making and developments in the oil-exporting world, identifying and explaining Middle East and global oil and energy trends, including OPEC strategies and development. Mr. Bahree is based in IHS CERA's Washington, DC, office.
Before joining IHS CERA he was Director of Energy Research for Medley Global Advisors. Mr. Bahree achieved worldwide recognition during his 15 years as The Wall Street Journal's chief international energy correspondent. Educated in India where he started his journalistic career, Mr. Bahree joined Dow Jones & Co. in New York in 1970. In addition to extensively covering energy issues, he covered a range of key global economic matters such as monetary policy, world trade negotiations, and the founding of the World Trade Organization during extended postings in Paris, Geneva, London, and New York. As Deputy Managing Editor for AP-Dow Jones, Mr. Bahree directed the newswire's energy coverage before becoming the Journal's chief international energy correspondent, a position he held until 2007. Mr. Bahree is the recipient of the 2001 Award for Excellence in Written Journalism from the International Association for Energy Economics.
Jordan Frazier, IHS CERA Associate, Cost and Technology Group, specializes in market analysis and supply and demand modeling for energy-intensive industries such as steel and for operating cost markets including oil field services and supply and logistics. Before joining IHS CERA Mr. Frazier was with Haliburton Energy Services, where he was involved in upstream drilling and completions operations, including reservoir evaluation, contract modeling, and financial analysis, covering projects in Nigeria and Venezuela, among others. He also previously held positions with Citigroup Financial Services. Mr. Frazier holds a BA from the University of Oklahoma.
Katherine Hardin, IHS CERA Senior Director, heads IHS CERA's Russian and Caspian Energy service. She has worked extensively in Russia and the Former Soviet Union (FSU) since 1990. Ms. Hardin has focused most recently on the Russian gas sector as well as oil and gas development in Central Asia and the Caucasus. She has authored several IHS CERA reports, including analyses of Kazakhstan's oil export routes, regional gas pricing in the FSU, Gazprom's presence in the Caucasus, and the new wave of Asian investment in Russia and the Caspian, among other topics. Prior to joining IHS CERA Ms. Hardin was an energy consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, advising on power sector privatization throughout the FSU, with a focus on Central Asia and the Caucasus. She has also coauthored a study for the Asian Development Bank highlighting lessons for Asian countries from power investment in Eastern and Central Europe and South America. Ms. Hardin is a Fellow with the United States-Japan Foundation. She holds an undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University, an MA from Yale University, and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.
Judson Jacobs, IHS CERA Director, is a Research Director in IHS CERA's Upstream Technology practice. In this role he studies the strategic implications of digital and oilfield technologies in the exploration and production (E&P) sector. He was the primary contributor to IHS CERA's Digital Oil Field of the Future (DOFF) Multiclient Study and continues to examine technology issues related to production activities in leading IHS CERA's DOFF Forum service. Other recent research includes information technology externalization in E&P, the expanding role of seismic, and industry knowledge management trends. Prior to joining IHS CERA, Mr. Jacobs worked at the Mitchell Madison Group, a strategy consulting firm, where he served the energy and financial services sectors. His background in the upstream oil and gas industry includes engineering positions with Schlumberger Wireline Services and work as an exploration geologist in Anadarko Petroleum Corporation's international division. Mr. Jacobs hold a BSE from Princeton University and an MS in Geology from Stanford University.
Robert LaCount, IHS CERA Senior Director and Head of IHS CERA's Climate Change and Clean Energy Group, is an authority on environmental policy and strategy, climate change legislation and regulations, and emissions trading. Mr. LaCount recently managed the environmental analysis for the IHS CERA Multiclient Studies Crossing the Divide: The Future of Clean Energy and Dawn of a New Age: Global Energy Scenarios for Strategic Decision Making-The Energy Future to 2030. He was also the project director for the IHS CERA Special Report Design Issues for Market-based Greenhouse Gas Reduction Strategies and the IHS CERA Special Study Clearing the Air: Scenarios for the Future of US Emissions Markets. Mr. LaCount joined IHS CERA from PG&E National Energy Group where he was Director of Environmental Policy and Strategy. He has managed the design and implementation of numerous environmental regulations and emissions trading programs in previous positions with the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Maryland Department of the Environment.
Mr. LaCount holds a BA from Wittenberg University, an MS from the University of Pennsylvania and the French Petroleum Institute, and an MBA from the University of Maryland.
Olivier Abadie, IHS CERA Director for Downstream Europe, has 25 years of international experience in refining, trading, supply-demand analysis, and business development. Based in Paris, Mr. Abadie focuses on short- and long-term analysis of crude oil and refined products markets, transportation, and refinery investment. His expertise covers analysis of economic conditions, global oil demand and supply trends, their influence on oil and product prices, and the implied strategic challenges. He works closely with IHS CERA clients to assess how market, regulatory, economic, and political risks could modify their competitive environment. He contributes to the IHS CERA World Refined Products Outlook and IHS CERA World Oil Watch through his analysis of Western European markets. His recent research includes analysis of Middle East refining capacity, the challenges of the changing liquid refining supply, and European refining capacity, among other issues.
Prior to joining IHS CERA Mr. Abadie was Trading Manager with Perenco, in charge of optimizing crude and gas export and sales in Europe, Africa, and Latin America. Previously with ELF he was International Aviation Development manager, first Director of the company's crude/products trading office in Moscow, and held operational jobs in crude and products trading. He also held positions in Mobil refining, supply, and retail in France. Mr. Abadie teaches on oil markets in Sciences-Po and Ecole Nationale des Mines de Paris and holds MS degrees from the top level French Grandes Ecoles, Polytechnique, and Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées.
Tiffany A. Groode, IHS CERA Associate Director, focuses on critical issues for IHS CERA's Driving the Future: Energy for Transportation in the 21st Century Forum. Her expertise includes modeling and analyzing the environmental impacts of ethanol production by performing life-cycle uncertainty analysis as well as assessing the potential scale of bioethanol production from various biomass sources. While working at the Sloan Automotive Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Dr. Groode presented her bioethanol results and conclusions to a variety of national government agencies to provide insight for policy decisions. Dr. Groode holds a BS from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an MS and PhD from MIT.
Thane Gustafson, IHS CERA Senior Director of Russian and Caspian Energy, is a widely recognized authority on Eurasia who has spent 35 years studying and traveling in Russia, Ukraine, and the rest of the Former Soviet Union (FSU). He is the author of Capitalism Russian Style, described as "a tough-minded analysis of Russia's roller-coaster ride from communism to capitalism" by Pulitzer Prize winner Hedrick Smith. Dr. Gustafson is also the coauthor (with Daniel Yergin) of Russia 2010 and What It Means for the World and the author of Crisis amid Plenty: The Politics of Soviet Energy under Brezhnev and Gorbachev, which was awarded the Marshall Shulman Prize as the best book on Soviet affairs. Dr. Gustafson is currently at work on a history of the Russian oil and gas industry since the end of the Soviet Union. Formerly a professor at Harvard University and a political analyst at the Rand Corporation, he is also professor of government at Georgetown University.
Dr. Gustafson founded IHS CERA's Russian and Caspian team and directed it for 15 years. He is the author of over 150 IHS CERA reports, including analyses of technology transfer and the Russian "oil miracle"; gas market development and transportation issues, including new pipelines; quality banking; Russian oil production growth and the domestic and foreign markets; US-Russian political and energy relations; regulatory and legal reform in the Russian energy sector; and gas and power reform.
Dr. Gustafson holds a BS from the University of Illinois and a PhD from Harvard University.
Rafael McDonald, IHS CERA Associate Director, Global Gas, focuses on global liquefied natural gas (LNG). Mr. McDonald is responsible for analysis of the global balances of LNG, ascertaining the effects of supply and demand fluctuations on LNG flows, and examining the differentiation between short-term "flexible" deals and long-term contractual obligations. He also maintains IHS CERA's shipping database and aids in the calculations of project economics. He provides ongoing LNG market analysis as part of IHS CERA's Global LNG retainer service and is the principal author of the Global LNG Market Briefings. He brings extensive modeling experience to the team. Prior to joining IHS CERA Mr. McDonald worked for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection's Office of Research and Standards, where he specialized in risk assessment and exposure analysis. He holds a BSE from Princeton and an MS from Washington University in St. Louis.
Fabien Roques, IHS CERA Director, European Gas and Power, specializes in the European power and carbon dioxide (CO2) markets. His expertise includes market design and regulation, restructuring, and valuation work for corporate and government clients. Mr. Roques has particular expertise in using quantitative models to analyze strategic decisions such as investment under uncertainty. Before joining IHS CERA Mr. Roques was with the International Energy Agency, where he contributed to a range of studies including the World Energy Outlook energy and CO2 emission scenarios. Previously, as a researcher at the Cambridge University Electricity Policy Research Group, he analyzed market design, security of supply, and fuel mix diversification in liberalized electricity markets. Mr. Roques holds a master's degree from the Ecole Centrale Lyon and a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
Enrique Sira, IHS CERA Director, leads IHS CERA's Andean Energy and Mexico Energy advisory services. He is an expert in portfolio optimization, decision making, and capital allocation for the oil and gas industries. Mr. Sira has over ten years of experience in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries, where he has held positions ranging from field engineer to financial controller of international operations. His experience includes oil and gas exploration, business planning and strategy, business development, project finance, economic analysis, mergers and acquisitions, and risk analysis and management.
Mr. Sira has authored a number of IHS CERA Private Reports and Decision Briefs on hydrocarbon policy, strategy, and regulatory regimes in Latin America. He has also performed significant work in the areas of portfolio optimization, designed and implemented uncertainty characterization and management programs for exploration and production assets worldwide, and performed numerous project valuations and risk analysis internationally. In his academic and professional experience Mr. Sira has authored a number of research papers contributing to modern portfolio optimization theory, such as "Semi Variance as Real Project Portfolio Optimization Criteria with Application in the Oil and Gas Industry," in the International Journal of Global Energy Issues. Mr. Sira holds a BSc from the Universidad Simon Bolivar (Venezuela), an MSc from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (United Kingdom), and a joint MBA/MA from the Wharton School of Business/Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania.
Michael Stoppard, IHS CERA Managing Director, Global Gas, is a member of IHS CERA's Senior Leadership Team. He is a specialist in the international gas business and is responsible for the development and coordination of IHS CERA's global and interregional analysis of LNG and its communication to clients. Mr. Stoppard led IHS CERA's entry into LNG as Project Manager for the pioneering study The New Wave: Global LNG in the 21st Century. Earlier he was a core team member of IHS CERA's European Gas group, developing IHS CERA's European natural gas and power scenarios. Mr. Stoppard has also worked on numerous tailored consulting assignments for clients, including major gas producers, European utilities, power developers, and financial investors. He has extensive experience in providing strategic analysis and recommendations at the board and senior executive level. Before joining IHS CERA Mr. Stoppard was a research fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, where he published a variety of studies of the gas industry including his book A New Order for Gas in Europe? He also worked on a study for the World Bank on the environmental benefits of natural gas for developing countries. In addition, Mr. Stoppard served as a Parliamentary Special Advisor on energy regulation for the House of Commons Trade and Industry Committee in the United Kingdom. He is the author of numerous IHS CERA reports, including analyses of business models, gas and power convergence in Europe, LNG shipping and trading, and gas distribution. He was coauthor with Daniel Yergin of "The Next Prize" published in Foreign Affairs. Mr. Stoppard holds an honors degree from the University of York.
Mr. Pippard is an Associate with the Government, Security and Energy practice of JSAS where he provides defense, intelligence and commercial clients in the Americas, South and Southeast Asia, North, East and West Africa, and the Middle East with security, risk and terrorism assessments.
Mr. Pippard is a regular speaker at major international defense and security conferences. In April 2009, he delivered a keynote address on jihadist use of the internet at the first ever Public Safety Symposium organized by Microsoft in Redmond, WA. In early May 2009, he spoke on current trends in global terrorism at the U.S. Defense conference in Washington, DC. And in mid-May 2009, he spoke on security threats to energy assets at an energy industry briefing in New York City.
Prior to joining JSAS, Mr. Pippard spent nearly four years in various roles with Jane's Security Editorial staff. Most notably, from December 2006 to June 2008, Mr. Pippard was the managing editor of Jane's Terrorism and Insurgency Center (JTIC), an online terrorism and global threat assessment center. During this time, he specialized in analyzing trends in terrorist tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) and best practices in the collection and use of open-source information and intelligence, and frequently authored post-incident analyses of major terrorism incidents. A key part of Mr. Pippard's responsibilities was also to deliver regular verbal and written briefings on terrorism and future threat environments to key external clients in the private sector as well as defense and intelligence communities worldwide. Mr. Pippard also developed Jane's counter-terrorism environment assessment methodology.
Mr. Pippard has an ongoing relationship with the US National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), as well as other U.S.-based organizations engaged in the delivery of terrorism OSINT to government and commercial clients, and has participated in the NCTC annual closed-session on terrorism metrics since July 2007.
Prior to joining Jane's in 2004, Mr. Pippard served as a research associate at the United Nations Association of the UK, where he focused his research on UN peacekeeping strategies and post-conflict reconstruction. He is the co-editor of Human and Environmental Security: An Agenda for Change (Earthscan September 2005), which he launched at the UN General Assembly in New York in 2005, and served as co-editor of the Peacekeeping Digest in International Peacekeeping (a Taylor and Francis journal) in 2006. He holds an MA in International Peace and Security from King's College, University of London, and a BA (Hons) in Comparative American Studies from the University of Warwick.
Tarun is an analyst with Janes Strategic Advisory Services. Since starting at Jane's in July of 2007 Tarun has gained a great deal of experience assessing various defense market segments for a number of commercial clients. Tarun has conducted and participated in market assessments covering both air and ground based defense vehicles/ platforms, tactical communications, radar, a number of C4I systems, small arms, small caliber ammunition, and solider systems. In addition to his work on commercial defense segments, Tarun has conducted extensive open source research for government clients including budget analysis of US and international defense budgets.

Tate Nurkin is a Director with Jane's Strategic Advisory Services (JSAS), a division of IHS Jane's. In this role, he is responsible for managing JSAS' support to defense and intelligence communities and energy clients throughout the world. Prior to joining Jane's, Mr. Nurkin also worked for Joint Management Services, a defense consulting firm in Atlanta, GA; the Strategic Assessment Center of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC); and the Modeling, Simulation, Wargaming and Analysis team at Booz Allen Hamilton.
Mr. Nurkin has over 12 years experience in research and analysis of the international security environment and emerging threats for North American, European and East Asian defense and intelligence communities. Mr. Nurkin has focused much of his support to government and private sector clients on scenario building, alternative futures analysis, wargaming design, and understanding the implications of plausible future security and operating environments.
From 1997 through 2006, Mr. Nurkin designed, supported, organized or participated in over sixty alternative futures events for defense and intelligence community clients in North America and Europe. Since coming to IHS Jane's in March 2006, Mr. Nurkin has continued his focus on alternative futures analysis and has provided scenario development and alternative futures analysis support to the United States Air Force, defense communities in Asia and energy firms. Most recently, Mr. Nurkin led a team to produce a series of four scenarios for Iraq's future for an international oil company. He has also frequently spoken on understanding future operating and security environments at conferences in Seoul, South Korea; Tokyo, Japan; and New Delhi, India. In April of 2008, Mr. Nurkin was the sole Jane's presenter at the IHS Jane's Defense Industry Conference in Washington, DC where he spoke on future security challenges and drivers of the international security environment. He also spoke on six drivers of the future security environment at the September 2008 IHS Herold Pacesetter's conference and presented on the future of Iraqi security at CERA Week 2009 in February of 2009.
Mr. Nurkin has also made a number of media appearances in the United States and Canada. He was a guest on C-SPAN's Washington Journal program where he commented on international security challenges in advance of the 2008 Presidential election and has also served as a commentator on counter-terrorism and security issues for Calgary Global and the Canadian Broadcast Corporation as well as BBC One Radio.
Will Hartley is the Editor of Jane's Terrorism & Insurgency Centre (JTIC), which involves managing the Jane's team responsible for collecting and analysing terrorism-related open source intelligence (OSINT). Prior to joining Jane's, Will worked as a project manager in the Global Strategy & Programme Management department of Credit Suisse, and subsequently for a small consultancy firm specialising in information collection and analysis. In addition, he has lived and worked in Uganda, Morocco and Thailand. Will holds an MA (Distinction) in sub-state conflict from the War Studies Department at King's College, London.
Kenneth Rogoff is Thomas D. Cabot Professor of Public Policy and Professor of Economics at Harvard University. During 2001-03 Mr. Rogoff served as Chief Economist and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund. He is also a former Director of the Center for International Development at Harvard. Mr. Rogoff is an expert on global economic issues, including international trade and financial flows, as well as sovereign default. His treatise Foundations of International Macroeconomics (written jointly with Maurice Obstfeld) is the standard text in graduate courses throughout the world, and his monthly syndicated column on global economic issues is published in 13 languages in over 40 countries. He is on the Economic Advisory Panel of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Central Bank of Sweden. Mr. Rogoff is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Trilateral Commission. He is also a fellow of the Econometric Society and the World Economic Forum and has been invited to give numerous named universitywide lectures at colleges around the world. He holds the life title of international grandmaster of chess. Mr. Rogoff holds a BA from Yale University and a PhD from Harvard University.
Dr. Nariman Behravesh is Chief Economist and Executive Vice President for IHS Global Insight and author of the recently published book Spin-Free Economics: A No-Nonsense, Nonpartisan Guide to Today's Global Economic Debates (McGraw-Hill). Directing IHS Global Insight's entire forecasting process, he is responsible for developing the economic outlook and risk analysis for the United States, Europe, Japan, China, and other emerging markets. He oversees the work of 325 professionals, located in North America, Europe, and Asia, who cover economic, financial, and political developments in over 200 countries.
Behravesh and his team were designated #1 in USA Today's 2004 ranking of top economic forecasters, and in Reuters' 2004 survey of major currency exchange rate forecasters. In 2008, he was ranked #2 by USA Today. In the Wall Street Journal's annual ranking of U.S. forecasters, Behravesh was ranked #3 (out of 56) for 2006, and was the only forecaster to place in the top six for 2003, 2004, and 2006.

His Op-Ed pieces have also appeared in the Financial Times, Newsweek International, and the London Times.
Before joining IHS Global Insight, Behravesh was chief international economist for Standard & Poor's. Prior to that, he was president and CEO of Oxford Economics U.S.A., Inc. He also held a number of positions, including group senior vice president, during ten years with WEFA. Early in his career, Behravesh worked at the Congressional Budget Office and the Federal Reserve. He has been covering the global economy for over 30 years.
Behravesh holds Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.Sc. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has lived in Europe and the Middle East, and is fluent in several languages. He travels extensively to Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
Farid Abolfathi is Managing Director, Global Macroeconomics and Country Risk. He has more than 20 years of experience in country risk analysis and macroeconomic forecasting. His expertise also includes Middle Eastern economics. In 1995, Dr. Abolfathi led a team of researchers who developed the conceptual framework for assessing risk to investment and business operations that has become the core component of IHS Global Insight's Global Risk Service. He holds several degrees, including a PhD from Northwestern University. He is fluent in English, Farsi, and Spanish.
Sara Johnson is Managing Director of Global Macroeconomics with IHS Global Insight. In this role, she helps clients assess worldwide business and financial opportunities and risks. She was previously North American Research Director and Chief Regional Economist with Standard & Poor's DRI, a predecessor of IHS Global Insight. In this role, she managed the U.S. Macro, U.S. Regional, U.S. Industry, Cost Forecasting, and Canadian services. Ms. Johnson holds a BA in economics and mathematics from Wellesley College and a MA in economics from Harvard University with concentrations in finance and macroeconomic theory.
John Mothersole is a Principal in the Industry Practices Group, where he is the nonferrous metals analyst. He also helps supervise the Pricing and Purchasing Service's price and wage forecasts and the construction cost and operation and maintenance costs forecasts prepared by the group's Power Planner Service. He has a graduate degree in economics from the University of Maryland.
Michael J. Raimondi is Executive Managing Director of the IT/Telecom Custom Solutions practice, where he is responsible for advising clients in telecommunications services and equipment companies, computer software and equipment companies, and networking and information companies on resource requirements and reallocations, network expansion plans, facility location, market segmentation, sales, and acquisition decisions. He holds a graduate degree in economics from Georgetown University.
Zbyszko Tabernacki is Executive Managing Director of the Country Intelligence Group, overseeing a team of economists and analysts responsible for daily coverage of 202 countries around the world. A native of Poland, he holds a graduate degree in economics from the Warsaw School of Economics and a post-graduate degree in international finance and global markets from the Georgetown Business School. He is fluent in English and Polish.
Simon Wardell is Director of Global Oil. He heads the company's oil analysis and forecasting and the online energy intelligence service, World Markets Energy, which provides daily analysis of energy industry developments worldwide with an emphasis on political, regulatory, and security issues affecting the upstream industry. He holds a BA in international politics and philosophy and gained an MA in the political economy of the Middle East and Arabic from Exeter University (United Kingdom), where he specialized in oil economics.
Tim Armstrong is Director of Asia, Middle East, and Africa Automotive Research in the Automotive Group. He has nearly 20 years' experience in analyzing and forecasting emerging markets. In the course of his career, he has covered more than 40 of the world's automotive markets and from 1997 to 2007 headed IHS Global Insight's East European automotive market research. He developed and introduced the Middle East and Africa Forecast Service in 2003. Educated in Australia, Armstrong has undergraduate degrees from Murdoch University and Curtin University and a graduate degree in economics from the University of Western Australia. His languages include English, French, and Spanish.
Philip G. Gott is Director for Automotive Custom Solutions for the Global Automotive Services Group, where he specializes in identifying technical and competitive advantages, and creating and implementing technical, business, and market entry strategies. Gott has more than 30 years' experience with the automotive industry.
Nigel Griffiths is Managing Director of the European Car and Light Commercial Vehicle Forecast Service. He specializes in production forecasting, manufacturer model program strategies, and European car park analysis. Griffiths has more than 13 years of direct experience in forecasting trends in the European and global automotive industry. He has received numerous awards for study and analysis, including the Alexander Duckhams Prize of the Institute of the Motor Industry. He holds an MBA from Cardiff Business School, where he specialized in the economics of the motor industry.
Christoph Stuermer is the Director of Business Process Management within the Automotive Analysis and Forecasting group of IHS Global Insight (IGI). As such, he specifies, develops, and implements new processes and methodologies for the improvement of current Automotive services, as well as the integration of new and innovative subject-matters. At the same time, the World Markets Automotive operations report to him, and he frequently represents IGI's automotive insights in the German media. Before this, for 5 years he was responsible for the analysis and forecast of the German, Austrian, and Swiss automotive markets, as well as the strategic assessment of the domestic manufacturer groups. As such, he was managing the "Global OEM Report", which has now developed into the on-line platform "AutoInsight Production". Before joining IGI, he spent 6 years at Daimler, in his last function overseeing Strategic Planning and Product Portfolio Management within Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars - Marketing.
Gerard McCloskey. IHS CERA Vice President and Global Advisor, Coal, is the Chairman and Founder of The McCloskey Group, which specializes in news, data and analysis on the international coal markets. The McCloskey Group is now part of IHS CERA. Mr. McCloskey is considered a world authority on coal and has advised numerous banks, power, steel, and coal companies globally as well as addressing European and British parliamentary assemblies and specialist committees. The group has extensive publication and consultancy divisions and organizes 14 conferences throughout the world. The McCloskey Group publishes five regular coal newsletters, including the industry leader McCloskey Coal Report. McCloskey Coal Information Services Ltd., established in 1987, produced the flagship International Coal Report, working with the Financial Times until December 2000. Previously Mr. McCloskey was selected by the Financial Times to run its series of newsletters. Mr. McCloskey was also press advisor in the UK Department of Energy to a series of ministers in the Callaghan and Thatcher governments. He also worked as a journalist. Mr. McCloskey studied economics at the London School of Economics.
Mr. Edgar is a Senior Director within Jane's Strategic Advisory Services (JSAS). Mr. Edgar is responsible for the management and operation of the global consultancy at IHS Jane's. Professionally, Mr. Edgar brings a multi-faceted range of experience in methods, analysis, and strategy related to international security. He has specialized in the employment and management of analysis tools and techniques, including econometrics and statistics, systems modeling and simulation, analysis. In the past, Mr. Edgar led qualitative and quantitative analytics support to the US Department of Defense (DoD), United States civil government, and international commercial clients; addressing a variety of regional and international security issues. Currently, Mr. Edgar provides technical assessments of international defense and security markets, and assists with the refinement of open source intelligence initiatives in support of international security and threat assessments.
Mr. Edgar holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from the University South Florida and a Master of Science degree in International Affairs from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Mr. Edgar's academic background is in international studies with emphasis on international security and modeling & simulation. Additionally, Mr. Edgar has extensive defense budget and acquisition experience, under the tutelage of former DoD Comptroller William Lynn, has written several scholarly articles and reports, and has provided expert testimony to the United States Congress (September 21, 2005: Hearing of the Threat Panel of the House Armed Services Committee: "Threats in Latin America"). Mr. Edgar's recent budget-related activities include a presentation on Global Defense Trends: Strategies for accessing markets- delivered in Washington DC at the Jane's Defense Industry Briefing.Michael Formosa is the Director of Jane's Strategic Advisory Services leading the EMEA office. His primary responsibility is to deliver strategic recommendations to multinational defence firms, financial institutions and government foreign and defence ministries.
Prior to joining Jane's, Michael led a US-based sector team within a British Government-funded consulting operation. As an Honorary Vice Consul from 1999 to 2005, he delivered US market analysis and strategic recommendations to UK industry and institutions such as the Confederation of British Industries, the Minister of State for Small Business, various Parliamentary committees, and HM Treasury.
From the late 1980s, Michael worked in enterprises focusing on the international sale and distribution of dual-use technologies for rotary-wing aircraft and consumables for combat aircraft and armoured vehicle manufacturing. Covering emerging markets, he negotiated numerous distribution and licensing agreements with a mixed portfolio of industrial partners, financial institutions and government departments.Â
Michael received an MSc in international affairs specialising in economic development from the New School for Social Research in New York. His dissertation is entitled From Foreign Aid to Foreign Direct Investment: Market Reform in Jordan.
Daniel J. Oleks is an Associate with Jane's Strategic Advisory Services (JSAS) and has 8 years of experience in the field of international affairs and the aerospace and defense industry. As a JSAS Associate, Mr. Oleks is responsible for managing a team of analysts, and conducting research and analysis of his own. Since coming to IHS Jane's, Mr. Oleks has managed projects for both corporate and government clients that have focused on the inter-related issues of military capabilities, global defense procurement and market trends, and the international security environment.
Prior to IHS Jane's, Mr. Oleks held positions as a Research Assistant with the United States Military Academy's Combating Terrorism Center; a Research Assistant with the World Policy Institute's Counterterrorism Research Project; a Program Coordinator with Columbia University's Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies; a Workshop Coordinator with Harvard Law School's Negotiation Research Project; and a Project Assistant with Conflict Management Group

Dr. Kasputys founded Global Insight, Inc. in March 2001 to join together the world's premier economic information and consulting firms, consisting of Data Resources (DRI) and WEFA (formerly Wharton Economic Forecasting Associates). He served as Chairman, President and CEO until the sale of Global Insight to IHS Inc. on October 10, 2008. During this period, he acquired and integrated eight additional companies providing economic and business information. Dr. Kasputys now serves as Chairman of IHS Global Insight and Chairman of the IHS Insight Advisory Board, which develops and recommends products and services that can best meet client needs utilizing all IHS insight capabilities.
He also founded Decision Economics with noted economist Dr. Allen Sinai where he continues as Chairman.
Kasputys was chairman, president, and CEO of Primark Corporation from 1987 to 2000. He transformed this New York Stock Exchange company from a $1.7 billion diversified energy company into a leading global provider of financial and economic information. In September 2000, Kasputys successfully completed the merger of Primark with Thomson Financial and was chairman of Thomson Financial until his founding of Global Insight. Prior to Primark, Kasputys served as executive vice president of McGraw-Hill. From 1977 to 1984, Kasputys held positions at Data Resources, culminating in his election as president and chief executive officer.
From 1972 to 1977, Kasputys served in the U.S. Department of Commerce, rising to the position of Assistant Secretary. He was also Assistant Administrator of the U.S. Maritime Administration and worked in the Office of the Secretary of Defense during the Vietnam conflict. He was Deputy Director of the White House task force formed to deal with the Arab oil embargo in 1973, and subsequently participated in the founding of the U.S. Department of Energy.
Kasputys holds both master's and doctor's degrees from Harvard University, and serves as a director on a number of boards. He is the Co-Chairman of the U.S.-based Committee for Economic Development, a leading business group that develops and promotes policies to improve economic growth.
Dr. Knell specializes in environmental regulation of the energy industry and climate change politics in particular. Contributing to a range of subscription products and bespoke consulting projects, he is predominantly responsible for analysis of regulatory and policy developments impacting European and international CO2 prices.
Bob Flanagan is a principal in IHS Global Insight's Technology Markets Practice. With more than 20 years of technology product development, manufacturing, and consulting experience, he is responsible for advising clients within the information technology (IT) sector.
Prior to joining IHS Global Insight, Flanagan held senior positions with premier technology consulting and market research organizations. At IBM Global Services, he was a charter member of the firm's Internet Consulting Practice. He directed Cambridge Technology Partners' Knowledge Management Practice and was a core member of the thought leadership team. At the Yankee Group, he launched research service offerings covering collaborative computing and internet strategies.
Dr. Joyce Brinner is Senior Prinicipal, working with IHS Global Insight clients to assess the impact of economic variables on their specific operations through customized model building. The models are used to determine the impact of both the business cycle and relevant industry factors on the clients' product or service demand. Her work in recent years has focused on both local and global industry markets in such areas as consumer products, tourism, telecommunications, IT services and energy. Dr. Brinner has testified before Congress and state legislatures on industry restructuring and the impact of climate change policies on the economic outlook. She had over 25 years experience with Standard & Poor's DRI, holding previous assignments in DRI's Energy Group and U.S. Macroeconomic Group
